Sheinbaum publishes campaign demarcation letter in his favor

By order of National Electoral Institute (INE), the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaumpublished a letter where he separated himself and asked his supporters to refrain from making propaganda in his favor to influence the 2024 electoral process.

However, the local president said that she will challenge the order made by the INE, derived from her participation in different events, possible anticipated acts of pre-campaign and campaign.

Sheinbaum Pardo published the letter, although he said he did not agree with the INE’s order. “With this, once again the INE demonstrates its bias, anti-democratic and conservative attitude, by ordering me to ask citizens not to exercise their freedoms through social media and with public resources.”

It is truly incredible that the INE, who is supposedly the guarantor of democracy and free expression, imposes this measure that clearly has a biased and authoritarian character”.

The INE did not order the president to restrict freedom of expression, but to inhibit behaviors, such as the campaign #EsClaudiawhich may affect the competition for the presidential succession that will begin next year.

In this sense, the deputy Jorge Álvarez Maynez of Movimiento Ciudadano, as well as various citizens filed complaints against the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, derived from her participation in different events in which, they allege, are configured anticipated pre-campaign and campaign acts, improper use of public resources, personalized promotion and improper dissemination of his work report, requesting precautionary measures and preventive protection.

The painting of fences and placement of tarps in different parts of the Republic was denounced, as well as the dissemination on social networks with the apparent objective of promoting the official, through the use of phrases such as “#EsElla”, “EsClaudia” , and “so that the transformation continues”; as well as the participation of Sheinbaum, Salomón Jara Cruz, Rubén Rocha Moya, and various municipal and state public servants, for the celebration of three events in Oaxaca, Sinaloa and in the City of Mexico, on November 4, 5 and 6, as well as the celebration of an event on October 29 in the exhibition center of the City of Puebla, which was organized by the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, in which gave the conference called “Successful Government Policies”, which had the sole purpose of promoting her image and her achievements as a public servant, an event that was broadcast on social networks.

That is why the INE ordered the president to disassociate herself from said campaign, and to make the following demarcation: “The undersigned has been made aware of the existence and use of the hashtag #EsClaudia in different spaces in Mexico City and other cities in the country, either through canvases, paint fences or on social networks. In this sense, once again and as I have done on previous occasions, I categorically affirm that neither my servant nor the government that I head have any direct or indirect connection with the phrase “It’s Claudia” similar phrases, or with some aspect related to its dissemination”. Which must be published on the official website of the Mexico City Government Headquarters, as well as on its social networks, both personal and institutional, in a visible and fixed place.

Sheinbaum reported that he will appeal the INE order before the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF).
