Moment mother is reunited with her baby who ‘almost crawled from Kent beach into a busy road’ after being ‘ignored or not noticed by anybody’
- Michael Currid, of Canterbury, found a child wandering around on a Kent beach
- Soon approached by a woman who took her child without any acknowledgement
- Her seemingly impassive reaction to being reunited with her child has gone viral
A mother’s seemingly impassive reaction to being reunited with her wandering child who had ‘almost crawled into a busy road’ has gone viral after sparking a furious backlash online.
In footage recorded at a beach in Dymchurch, Kent, last month, Michael Currid, 32, from Canterbury, can be seen holding a young toddler while looking for her parents.
He finds the child crawling up a flight of stairs which leads on to a busy road with cars driving past.
After asking nearby groups if the child belongs to them, Michael is suddenly approached by a woman who is on the phone and holding out her arm for the toddler.
She doesn’t acknowledge Michael – who places the unnamed child into her arms after the youngster calls her ‘mum’ – and then absentmindedly kicks a ball.
The woman’s lacklustre reaction left social media users gobsmacked after Michael and his graphic designer partner Lex Hartop, 28, who was filming the incident, shared the clip to TikTok on Monday.

‘So she really just didn’t care? Wasn’t worried. Not grateful. Wow,’ wrote one person, while another said: ‘The way she doesn’t even thank the guy and continues on the phone, even kicks the ball.’
‘Don’t have kids if you can’t look after them! This is sick,’ penned a third social media user, as a fourth said: ‘Do you know how long it would’ve taken that baby to crawl as well?’
‘I would have gone mad… she didn’t even come off the phone!,’ commented another, while one person said: ‘Lucky the baby climbed the stairs and not into the sea.’
Michael was left baffled by the exchange when the woman failed to say a word, with Lex heard off camera saying: ‘Is she joking?’
‘Michael and I were walking down the side of the beach when we noticed a baby crawling up some steps,’ Lex said. ‘We were hesitant at first, then confused.

‘The baby crawled up the second flight of concrete steps that lead from the beach to a busy road.
‘We walked past three to four different groups of people – one group either side of the stairs down to the beach and another two on the beach, around 20 people in total.
‘The baby must have crawled a long way and was either ignored or not noticed by anybody. From noticing the baby to returning her to her mother was all-around five minutes.
‘We believe it was a girl. The baby said “mum” upon seeing their mother turn round from a distance. The mother said nothing as Michael gave her back.
‘We were shocked by what happened, and wanted to share it with our friends and family. We didn’t expect it to blow up as much as it has,’ Lex added.
The couple added that the event left them feeling emotional.
