Investing Show: Should you invest in India? We ask the manager whose fund is up 40% in a year what all the fuss is about
India is an exciting investment opportunity in one of the emerging markets’ strongest economies, so why do more UK investors not buy in?
Investors in India have seen sparkling performance over the past year, but the market is also often judged to be pricey.
So is it worth investing in India? We discuss the prospects with Ashburton India Equity fund manager Jonathan Schiessl in the latest episode of the Investing Show. His fund is up 43 per cent over the past year, beating the near 20 per cent rise in the Sensex index.
He explains why technology is the key to India’s future success, why he believes it is ahead of other emerging markets and how changes such as the controversial demonetisation that saw some banknotes cancelled and a new biometric ID scheme, could transform the country for investors.
And we also ask the manager why investors should pay for an active fund in India rather than use a passive option.
Meanwhile, in the first part of the show, Simon Lambert, Richard Hunter and Nick Batsford take a look at how while the FTSE 100 has been hitting new highs, so too has its younger brother the FTSE 250. Is that index really more domestically focussed and why is it doing well?
