SICT cancels public works tender for Cancun

Cancun, QR. The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) canceled the bidding for the road work connecting the Huayacan Avenue and the Boulevard Colosio or highway 307.

This project was included in the package of road infrastructure works announced by the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, from the end of 2021 and which is currently underway, such as the resurfacing of Colosio Boulevard.

In the specific case of this biddingthrough an official letter addressed to companies interested in the work through the Compranet portal, the SICT informs that “derived from external situations such as the rethinking of the project layout for political and social reasons, as well as different locations for the release of the right of way, among other justified circumstances that cause the extinction of the need to contract the works object of this bidding and that at a given moment, if continued, may cause damage or harm to the convener and that therefore would cause greater consequences to this Secretary of State”.

The document adds that “this General Directorate of Carts in its capacity as convener, has determined the need to cancel this tender”.

Just on July 31 of this year, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the act of starting the flag of a package of works in which this project was included, which has already been canceled.

The project would cost 237 million and consisted of the construction of a 17.0 meter wide road, for four lanes, two in each direction, 3.5 meters long and lateral shoulders of 1 meter, with a length of 3.5 kilometers, between the avenues Huayacán y Myesterday countryas well as the construction with the same characteristics of another 1.7 kilometer section that went from Chac Mool Avenue to its junction with the Colosio Boulevard.

The delivery of this road work was scheduled for October 2023. The rest of the works announced that day by President López Obrador were the Nichupté Vehicle Bridgewith a budget of 5,580 million pesos, which started work that same day without having authorization from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to date.

Another work announced is the rehabilitation of Bulevar Colosio, the entrance road to Cancun, for an amount of 1,084 million pesos by the company Cemex, as well as the reconstruction of the Airport Distributor, with an investment of 360 million pesos, whose Preparation work began in July last month and will be completed in October 2023.
