This is not the first accusation against him. R’n’B singer Chris Brown, real name Christopher Maurice Brown, is accused of drugging and raping a woman on a yacht in 2020, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County court.
A woman who remained anonymous has filed a civil complaint against the singer, whom she accuses of having drugged and then raped her, at the end of 2020, in Florida, and from whom she claims 20 million dollars in damages and interests.
According to the complaint, a copy of which was seen by Agence France-Presse (AFP), Chris Brown had invited the complainant, described as “choreographer, dancer, model and musical artist”, on a yacht moored at the home of rapper Diddy in Florida, December 30, 2020. The young woman says she drank during this evening a drink offered by Chris Brown who returned it “disoriented and physically unstable”.
She accuses the artist of having taken her to a room where, despite her protests, he took off her swimsuit bottoms before raping her. “The traumatic events that the complainant (…) suffered are shocking and should horrify us all”, insists the complaint, filed Thursday in Los Angeles. The young woman says look “to obtain justice for herself” and also hope “to serve as an example” to others who might “to have been at the mercy” de Chris Brown.
His lawyers, Ariel Mitchell and George Vrabeck, told the specialized site TMZ that their client had not reported the rape to the police at the time, because she was a medical student and was embarrassed. They did not say whether they intended to pursue criminal charges in criminal court.
Chris Brown reacted to the complaint in a “story” posted on his Instagram account, writing “Every time I release music or a project THEY try to throw real bullshit”, without specifying who “they” refers to.
The American singer is the subject of rape charges in a Parisian palace in January 2019, about which a French investigating judge is investigating. Chris Brown, who is not the subject of any prosecution at this stage, has denied the facts.
In February 2017, Karrueche Tran, his ex-girlfriend, obtained a restraining order against the latter, accusing him of regular harassment: he was notified of the prohibition to approach her within 100 meters during five years.
Previously, he notably pleaded guilty to assaulting a fan in Washington in 2014 and was charged in 2016 with assaulting a woman in Las Vegas and another in Los Angeles. In 2012, during a nightclub outing, he took part in an altercation with R’n’B singer Drake, during which French basketball star Tony Parker was injured.
In 2009, he was convicted of hitting his then-girlfriend, superstar singer Rihanna, who was unable to attend the Grammy Awards due to her injuries.
