ECameruns pvot Joel Embiid got a double-double of 30 points and 18 rebounds after overcoming persistent pain in his right knee and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Detroit Pistons 110-102 on Thursday.
Embiid has suffered from that problem since he tore a meniscus last postseason.
The player’s performance statistics dropped a bit compared to the best of his career.
Even so, the Cameroonian, 2.13 meters tall, has played every game with the Sixers, which still do not have the star, the Australian point guard Ben Simmons, who has wanted to leave the team.
Due to the ailment, some fans and media wanted the pvot not to play against the Pistons – who have not won – and be given one more day of rest in view of Saturday’s game.
As usual, the Sixers again squandered a big lead, but Embiid returned to action late in the final period and scored a free throw to extend the gap again to 10.
The Sixers lost a 14-point lead and fell to the Brooklyn Nets in their first game of the season at home, and in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season against Atlanta for the same situation.
The Philadelphia team lost Game 5 after blowing a 26-point lead.
Forward Saddiq Bey with 19 points was the leader of the Pistons who have not yet known victory so far this season and suffered the fourth consecutive loss.
Power forward Jerami Grant and Canadian power forward Kelly Olynyk, who came out of reserve, each contributed 14 points each for the Pistons.
