Social security for domestic workers will be mandatory; Congress approves reform

The Senate endorsed it since March, now it only remains for the Executive to promulgate it.

The reform adds a chapter to the LSS dedicated to people employed in the home, the XI. Article 239-A defines who will be considered domestic workers and contemplates three different modalities for those who carry out this work: entry by exit, plant or meeting and employment in different homes.

And article 239-C is the one that indicates the obligation of the employer to register the worker with the IMSS. Whoever hires her carries out the affiliation process, contributes her employer’s fee, retains the worker’s fee based on the calculation indicated on the institute’s page and pays both amounts.

By having social security, they can go to medical consultations at IMSS clinics and receive free medication for themselves and their families, but it is not just that.
