(CNN) — Let the conversation about “nepo babies” be reactivated.
Romy Croquet Mars, the 16-year-old daughter of writer-director Sofia Coppola and her husband, Phoenix singer Thomas Mars, said she was punished for doing something she wasn’t allowed to do.
In a TikTok video that circulates on social networks (and that she deleted after publishing), the youngest of the Mars told her followers: “Prepare a pasta with vodka sauce with me because I am grounded.”
“Because I tried to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland with my father’s credit card, because I wanted to have dinner with my friend from camp,” she added.
The teen went on to explain that she is embarrassed because she doesn’t know the difference between garlic and onion and had to Google Images for help. At one point, she held up a shallot and asked her followers, “Is this an onion?”
“Also, I thought about doing this because I’m already grounded for the most important rule of my parents, which prohibits me from having public accounts on social networks, and this is the reason,” he said before showing himself holding what appears to be a Grammy award. .
Mars went on to share that her parents “don’t want me to be a nepo girl, but TikTok isn’t going to make me famous so it doesn’t really matter.”
“Nepo babies” is a term that refers to the children of famous people, particularly those of Hollywood, who benefit from nepotism. It became a topic of renewed currency following a much-discussed article in New York Magazine published in December.
CNN contacted representatives for Mars’s parents. A representative for Coppola said there would be no comment.
