Chelsea‘s Mason Mount would walk into any Premier League team, says Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness who believes the midfielder’s contributions are being overlooked.
Mount was singled out for praise by Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy after his role in Chelsea’s victory over Burnley last weekend and he also caught the eye of Souness against Sheffield United.
The Blues came from behind to beat the Blades 4-1 at Stamford Bridge and the midfielder came close to adding a fifth with Aaron Ramsdale making a fine save to keep out his long-range effort.

Hakim Ziyech was named man of the match by Jamie Carragher but Souness believes Mount’s performances have gone under the radar.
‘Because they’re home grown we’re overlooking them, we’re taking them for granted’ said Souness.
‘Mason Mount is a fabulous player, I think he’d be my first name in midfield.
Mount has been singled out for praise by different pundit for his recent performances
‘I know we talk about Ziyech, there are bigger challenges for Chelsea and Ziyech – if he can do that against the very best teams – we know Mason Mount can. We know he’s right up for the cup.’
Mount was called up to the latest England squad but Ashley Cole pointed out that Chelsea fans have been ‘critical’ of the 21-year-old this season.
‘He’s a baby, he’s a baby,’ argued Souness. ‘I’m trying to think what team he wouldn’t get in in the Premier League and that includes all the big guns.
‘I think him and (Phil) Foden are outstanding. And I also like the one at Leicester, Maddison. It pains me to say but right now England have some fabulous talent in midfield.’
