The South African Ministry of Health has warned that the rate of Coronavirus infection in the country will soon exceed its peak during the first wave of the pandemic.
The ministry said that “positive cases increased by 14046, bringing the total number of injuries to 954,258 cases.”
She added: “The positive rate, or percentage, that was positive in all the tests to detect the Corona virus was 26%, which is about twice the average percentage of infections that the country witnessed before December.”
And she added, “A new genetic mutation for (Covid-19) appeared in the country, and it may be responsible for the high cases of infection in the recent period.”
Local officials and WHO experts said, “The new mutation of the virus in South Africa differs from the one that was identified in Britain, but they have characteristics that make them more transmissible compared to the previously circulating strains.”
