The South Korean team earned the first three points by defeating its Bahraini counterpart 3-1, on Monday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha, at the opening of the fifth group competitions of the Asian Cup in football.
Hwang In-beom (38) and Lee Kang-in (56 and 68) scored for the South Korean team, and Abdullah Al-Hashash (51) for Bahrain.
South Korea is seeking to end a 64-year drought since the last time it was crowned champion of the continent, and it is relying on a constellation of stars playing in the five major European tournaments, led by English Tottenham striker Heung-Min Son.
