This comes in light of the high number of injuries, which put pressure on the health system and prompted police to raid the headquarters of commercial activities suspected of violating the rules of social distancing.
The Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that it recorded 24 new deaths, bringing the total number to 698, and 926 new cases of the virus were recorded, down from the record of 1,097 on Sunday, and the total number of cases in the country exceeded 50 thousand, according to the latest data.
The recent rise in the number of infections has confused efforts to contain the virus, while the country is witnessing a shortage of hospital beds, which has increased the debate about the need to tighten social distancing measures.
In addition, officials announced that the South Korean capital and surrounding areas will ban most gatherings of five or more people later this week in an effort to reduce cases of coronavirus infection during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
