President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador affirmed this Monday that the agreement that the Mexican Space Agency signed in September last year with the Russian government is not “for the purpose of spying on anyone or affecting the sovereignty of any nation.”
To a specific question, this morning the Mexican president explained: “It is an agreement that was signed last year, in September, before the war between Russia and Ukraine and now a scandal is being made because there is talk that Mexico is allowing Russian satellites can be used to spy on Mexican and North American airspace”.
Everything is a product of the war that is going on in the world, he assured, in addition to the fact that elections are approaching in the United States.
It should be remembered that it has been speculated that the aforementioned agreement would include the installation of the Russian Glonass system (Global Navigation Satellite System), a species that has been denied by the Mexican authorities.
“The truth is that these agreements are signed for all purposes and are not intended to spy on anyone or affect the sovereignty of any nation. What’s going on? What is the war? This produces a lot of suffering because there is loss of human life, displaced people, it also affects the economy of the countries of the world. The inflation that is currently being suffered is largely a product of that war and that is why we are proposing that dialogue and pacification be sought,” said AMLO from the National Palace.
“And whenever there are elections in the world these things are magnified, they are used for electoral purposes. That is why I call on you to seek a dialogue for peace. Second, that they do not leave, or rather, that they do not throw on deaf ears the fact that an intermediary group can be created to speak with the presidents of Russia, of Ukraine. I believe that things are going to improve a lot, once the elections are over”.
I have that confidence, that there will be more propaganda of good and bad, hopefully and the aggressions will not escalate and then things will calm down and peace will be reached,” López Obrador wished.
Finally, he asked not to include Mexico in matters in which it has no participation.
“In conclusion, to us that they do not get involved in their affairs. Mexico has a policy of neutrality and what we want is a peaceful solution to that controversy, as established by our Constitution.”
