Madrid, Nov 2 (.) .- Spanish companies have issued debt in Spain and abroad worth 149,812 million euros between January and September, 0.8% more than in the same period of 2020, taking advantage of the abundant liquidity in the market to finance itself in good conditions.
According to the latest quarterly bulletin of the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), so far this year there has been a 40% increase compared to 2020 in debt placements with criteria of environmental, social and corporate governance sustainability (ESG for its acronym in English), which exceed 14,000 million.
More than 80% of this figure has been placed abroad, where the most active have been financial institutions, which have replaced companies in the energy sector as the main issuers.
The debt placed by Spanish companies in the national market until September fell 4.9%, to 73,550 million, a decrease that is due to the fact that in 2020 there was a large volume of issues due to the good conditions at that time since they still exist other attractive sources of funding, such as the ECB rounds.
Likewise, there has been a greater growth in business financing abroad, which has diminished that achieved within Spain.
Between January and August (the CNMV only provides data for the first eight months for these placements), 76,262 million euros were placed abroad, 7.2% more than a year earlier.
The bulletin explains that the increase is produced thanks to the greater volume of short-term debt, which grew by 13.7%, compared to a stagnation of long-term debt.
