Specialists warn about psychosocial risks and work stress in companies in Querétaro

Queretaro, Qro. After the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and changes in work environments, there is a red light in the state in terms of work stress, to which psychosocial risks are added, said the president of the College of Medical Professionals of Companies of Querétaro (Meqmetac), Heriberto Pérez González Aragón.

For this reason, he highlighted the importance of companies adhering to the Official Mexican Standard NOM-035, on psychosocial risk factors at work, and applying the questionnaires that will allow them to identify the level of risk suffered by their workers.

“In work stress we are reaching a red light, that is why it is important to do the questionnaires, in October of this year is when the two years of doing the first questionnaires of Standard 035 expired, now it is important to do those questionnaires”, exposed.

He is also president of the National Federation of Occupational Health (Fenastac) explained that in October of this year it was two years since the entry into force of the second phase of the standard (it consisted of the identification and analysis of the psychosocial risk factors); Therefore, the biennium that the companies had to carry out these questionnaires to their workers expired, since they must be applied every two years.

“We are trying to have that link with SMEs (small and medium-sized companies) to be able to offer workers the support they require. That the money that the company earns is not stained by the blood of the workers, there have been several accidents here in Querétaro in companies, it is trying to avoid that ”, he highlighted.

After the first effects of the pandemic, he added, it is necessary for companies to re-apply the questionnaires to their workers, because new risk factors have been added in the last two years.

“We are seeing that there are some problems that there were not two years ago, before the pandemic, so it is important to attack this to prevent suicides, to prevent alcoholism, drug addiction, because it is what is being seen now in people who are working in the home office”, he warned.

Through the sector he represents, the president of Meqmetac explained that they have identified psychosocial risks, derived from the transition experienced by employees from face-to-face work to remote work and vice versa.

Through Meqmetac, he explained, it has been identified that only 20% of the companies have applied the questionnaires; Among these companies, it was detected that 20% of their collaborators suffer from stress.

“The doctors who are in the companies are the first filter, the worker arrives for consultation, he arrives because he cannot sleep, because he has headaches and during the interrogation this begins to come out, that being locked up at home, not going out There are many factors that intervene”, he added.

Through the questionnaires of Standard 035, he added, it seeks to generate a diagnosis and statistics regarding the psychosocial risks that afflict the working base.

In this sense, Meqmetac and the Association of Industrial MSMEs of Querétaro (Amiqro) will work on a strategy to advise companies regarding the application of actions and regulations that result in the well-being of their workers, including the NOM-035.
