While Anthony Mackie is now globally recognized as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America, one of his earliest roles was in an overlooked TV movie directed by Spike Lee.
Mackie’s journey in the MCU began as Sam Wilson, a.k.a. the Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He later inherited the iconic shield and title from Steve Rogers. His collaboration with Lee, however, occurred long before his rise to blockbuster fame.
Lee is the prolific filmmaker behind cinematic landmarks such as Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, and BlacKkKlansman. His celebrated filmography is renowned for exploring themes of race in America and has featured collaborations with major stars including Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Wesley Snipes. Mackie’s appearance in the director’s TV project marks an early, lesser-known milestone in the actor’s distinguished career.
