Legendary sportscaster Brent Musburger is set to make a special return to national television, joining the broadcast for the upcoming Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night.
The 86-year-old announcer, who currently serves on the Las Vegas Raiders’ radio broadcast team, is being honored as the recipient of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. As part of the celebration, Musburger will contribute to NBC’s live coverage of the game.
His appearance will begin with a sideline interview conducted by Maria Taylor. Afterward, he will move to the broadcast booth to join commentators Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth for the second half.
The announcement was met with widespread enthusiasm online, with fans and media figures celebrating the opportunity to hear the iconic voice on a national broadcast once again.
While best known to a generation of fans for calling marquee college football games for ABC and ESPN, Musburger’s distinguished career spans nearly every major sport. He was the original host of CBS’s The NFL Today and called several Super Bowls, in addition to extensive work on NBA and college basketball broadcasts. He is also widely credited with popularizing the term “March Madness.”
Now a Las Vegas resident, Musburger also became known for his witty references to betting lines during his broadcasts, a practice that further defined his unique on-air persona.
The Hall of Fame Game is scheduled to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET and will air on NBC.
