For the first time this season, the San Antonio Spurs have chained two consecutive victories by beating the Washington Wizards 99-116. The Texans had not had two wins in a row since late April.
Point guard Derrick White reaped his new scoring top with 24 points; seconded by a DeJounte Murray who was on the verge of adding a new triple-double: 22 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
Additionally, up to four additional teammates contributed double-digit scoring with Jakob Poeltl’s double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds); Keldon Johnson (13); and backups Thaddeus Young and Bryn Forbes, both with 10.
“The coaching staff is on top of me to stay aggressive, and so are my teammates,” Derrick White admitted. “I loved having my back covered when I had that slump. They trust me to get those pitches, so I just have to do them, “he explained.
The key to the match was in the paint, as the Spurs beat the capital by 72 to 56 points. In addition, Poeltl became the first player in the 2016 Draft to reach 2,000 rebounds and 400 blocks in his NBA career.
For their part, the Wizards had their two-game winning streak stopped against the OKC Thunder and Dallas Mavericks. Bradley Beal was the maximum exponent of the capital with 18 points and 8 assists; followed by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the recovered Spencer Dinwiddie with 17 and 16 points respectively.
