In the clip, taken by local Maria Spina, the adult deer is seen shaking his head as he tries to free himself from the string lights that got tangled around his antlers.
The string lights were the decorations on a Christmas tree in a square in the town centre.
Thankfully for the animal, a group of men, including vet Leonardo and park guard Massimo, were able to sedate him and free him from the strings.
Maria said: ‘A male deer got itself trapped in the fir tree in Villetta Barrea’s square right in the middle of the city.

‘The park guards immediately arrived and with the help of the doctor, Leonardo the park vet managed to put him to sleep.
‘They were then able to free him, and made sure he was awake and well so that wolves couldn’t easily chase him down.
‘We watched over him as he walked off into the woods.’
