It was barely six months ago that Queensland was lifting the Origin shield as 2020 series champions, and suddenly the Maroons are being called on to defend it against a New South Wales side that’s smarting from last year.
And thanks to the unfortunate COVID situation in Melbourne, the series opener is in the Melbourne of the north, Townsville.
Queensland might need the advantage of having two successive “home” games, because the ambush they sprung last year will be much harder in a more conventional series this time around.
