Steph Curry is set to return from injury as early as next week, Warriors GM Bob Myers says… and ‘could even feature in Golden State’s three-game road trip against the Lakers’
The general manager of the Golden State Warriors has delivered a fresh update on franchise superstar Steph Curry’s comeback from injury, hoping the four-time NBA champion can contribute to the team’s playoff push.
Sitting pretty as the Western Conference’s fifth seed with a 32-30 overall record, the Warriors are desperate for their 34-year-old guard to return, as there is only a three-game differential between themselves and the last play-in spot (No. 10 seed), taken by the New Orleans Pelicans.
On Wednesday, Warriors executive Bob Myers claimed that Curry could return from his lower left leg injury as early as next week.
‘I mean, that’s the hope,’ Myers told KGMZ-FM in San Francisco. ‘I think the reason why we can’t give you more definitive information is it is kind of predicated on how he feels, can he get up to the workload.
‘He’s just started some live stuff, two-on-two, three-on-three stuff where he’s getting out there and trying to feel contact again, get comfortable.’
Warriors’ Stephen Curry, 34, has sat out of 23 games this season but plans to return next week
The update comes just hours after ESPN’s Adrian ‘Woj’ Wojnarowski tweeted that the two-time NBA MVP could play in the team’s three-game road trip next week, which starts on Sunday against the LA Lakers.
Curry sustained his latest injury in Golden State’s 119-113 win over Dallas on February 4.
The NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers is averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 38 games this season.
Last week, the Warriors said that Curry had another examination and ‘is making good progress’ in a boost to fans.
Initially, an MRI exam showed partial tears to Curry’s superior tibiofibular ligament and interosseous membrane in his left leg. He also had a bruise.
Curry, who attended a pair of Stanford women’s basketball games last week to support friend Cameron Brink and the women’s game, has sat out 23 games overall this season, 11 of those with a partially dislocated left shoulder.
He was chosen an All-Star for the ninth time, but didn’t play in the game in Salt Lake City on February 19.
