We knew it was going to happen, but not for that reason he has lost an iota of emotion. Stephen Curry stepped onto Madison Square Garden last night – what better setting could there be – to simply make history. After a thirteen-year career, he was just two triples away from becoming the highest-scoring player in the NBA in 75 years. His talent had a date, a simple one for a boy who has made outdoor pitching a full-court threat. It did not fail.
There were exactly 7:33 minutes to go to the end of the first quarter when the Warriors point guard scored the 2,974 triple of his career. The basketball Mecca exploded with Curry, his teammates, the coaches and two luxury guests, Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, who accompanied him on the floor as his squires in the current podium of the best pitchers in the history of the League.
Allen’s record has lasted 10 years, but Curry’s could be extended considerably longer. At 33 years old, he is playing at his highest level and several more seasons are looming burning the rivals’ rim. In the current course he is averaging 5.4 triples per game for a total of 145. Until this past dawn no other player had reached 100 … Here is the exact moment when he broke the record.
«It was a beautiful ending. The preparation to reach this number… it was a special atmosphere. I knew the Garden would be delivered simply because of how iconic this place is, I can’t describe it enough, I really appreciate the way the fans lived in the moment with me and let me immerse myself in it. I could feel it. Once I took the shot… it felt good, it looked good, it felt like we were at home. It was a special moment that I certainly appreciate and will remember for the rest of my life, ”says Curry.
