Steve Kerr’s name has emerged strongly to replace Gregg Popovich at the helm of Team USA, reports journalist Marc Stein.
The other name for the national team is Erik Spoelstra, head coach of the Miami Heat; However, Kerr’s experience as Popovich’s assistant at Tokyo 2020 could give him an advantage over his teammate.
Kerr, a former NBA player and successful coach of the Golden State Warriors since 2014, won the gold medal at the 1986 World Cups held in Spain. He has also been a five-time NBA ring winner, three with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs; and he has also won it three times leading the Oakland team.
His averages as an NBA player were 6 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 45.4% in triples in 17.8 minutes per game; and his record as chief coach consists of 376 wins and 171 losses.
