As one of the main causes of the proliferation of small formats in the last five years, it is surprising that Steve Kerr has taken so long to make such a claim. Warriors coach recently declared for The Athletic that his intention is to dispense with depth in the pivot position. Kevon Looney and James Wiseman are the only two traditional big men on the roster right now, and for Kerr that’s enough.
“The league has changed a lot. This season we have played a lot with Draymond like five and even with Juan [Toscano]. Historically we have had a wide rotation of pivots, but I do not think it is necessary to continue doing so ”. Golden State also has the resource of Jordan Bell, who is on the list of players who will attend training camp. Although the statements of his coach reduce opportunities to end up entering the final roster. This is not to say that Kerr completely renounces the center figure. “If we really find a player capable of helping us from that position, obviously we will keep him. We hope to continue checking these trends in training camp ”. For now, in that preseason the coach will only have Looney until James Wiseman is fully injured in the final stretch of the season.
