- Crystal Palace are looking to sign goalkeeper Jack Butland before the deadline
- Stoke City are hoping to bring in Southampton’s Angus Gunn as a replacement
- Gunn is waiting at Southampton’s training ground for news on Butland’s move
Stoke City are hoping to bring in Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn before today’s 5pm deadline once Jack Butland’s move to Crystal Palace is completed.
Butland, 27, is close to sealing his switch to Selhurst Park where he will rejoin his former England manager Roy Hodgson.
That would leave Stoke free to snap up Gunn on loan. The former England under-21 international is behind Alex McCarthy at St Mary’s and would relish a chance to play regular games.
Angus Gunn is waiting for further updates as Stoke City look to sign the Southampton keeper
Gunn, 24, is currently at Southampton’s training ground waiting for good news about Butland. He signed for Southampton from Manchester City in a £14million deal in 2018.
Butland, 27, was once tipped as the future of English goalkeeping but has seen his career suffer through injury and loss of form over the last couple of years since Stoke were relegated in 2018.
A move to Premier League side Crystal Palace, would see him reunited with Roy Hodgson.
Stoke City keeper Jack Butland has been out of favour at Stoke recently following a loss of form
He won the first four of his nine England caps under Hodgson and the Palace boss believes the keeper is young enough to turn things around and provide competition for Vicente Guaita.
Butland, like Gunn, has yet to play this season and moves for both men will give them a better chance of starting this season.
There is not long for both deals to get across the line, with the domestic deadline closing at 5pm.
