NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg suggested that the defense ministers of NATO member states would agree this week to boost NATO’s mission in Iraq.

“I expect the ministers to agree to launch an expanded mission (in Iraq) with an increase in the number of staff providing training and advice in more security institutions across the country,” Stoltenberg said.
Stoltenberg indicated that the mission would be expanded gradually.
In 2018, NATO launched a training mission in Iraq with the aim of increasing the ability of local security forces to confront ISIS.
Last December, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called for expanding NATO’s training work in his country
