LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Snow and at times wintry mix and freezing drizzle will be possible Saturday. Snow is likely on Sunday. This weekend will be cold and breezy as well. Frigid temperatures are in the forecast for the first half of next week.

A storm system will move across the region Saturday and Sunday. There is a chance of snow, wintry mix (snow, sleet and freezing rain) and freezing drizzle Saturday morning and early afternoon across the area. Mid-to-late afternoon Saturday, most of Nebraska will transition to a chance to likelihood of snow. There may still be some freezing rain, freezing drizzle or sleet trying to mix in at times. Northern Kansas will still have a chance to likelihood of snow and wintry mix. Snow is likely across much of Nebraska and Northern Kansas Saturday night into Sunday morning. This snow may be moderate to heavy at times across parts of South Central and Southeastern Nebraska as well as Northern Kansas. Early-to-mid afternoon Sunday, the snow chance looks to decrease in the northern half of Nebraska and will likely be done by the evening. In the southern half of Nebraska, the chance for snow will begin to decrease late afternoon and into the evening. Snow may not be done in extreme Southeastern Nebraska and Northeastern Kansas until late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The light snowfall totals of 1 to 3″ looks to be in parts of Western and Northeastern Nebraska. The highest snowfall totals of 8 to 12″ should be in part of Southeastern Nebraska and Northeastern Kansas. There could be some ice accumulation of a glaze to a tenth of an inch in parts of Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas too. It will be cold and breezy this weekend too. North -northeast winds at 10 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph will make it feel colder. Those winds will also cause limited visibility with snow as well as areas of drifting and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult, especially Saturday night into Sunday. Winter Storm Warning in effect for part of South Central and Southeastern Nebraska as well as North Central and Northeastern Kansas Saturday morning – Sunday evening. Winter Weather Advisory in effect for parts of Eastern, Central and Western Nebraska Saturday morning – Sunday evening.

The coldest air of the season so far looks to stick around for the first half of next week. Morning winds chills Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday could be as low as -10 to -20. It warms up a little bit Thursday and Friday with a small chance of flurries or light snow showers both days.
