(Trends Wide) — Stormy Daniels is “absolutely” willing to testify in the criminal trial against Donald Trump in New York, she said in an interview with Piers Morgan. These were the first comments from the adult film actress since the former president pleaded not guilty to charges related to a payment scheme aimed at silencing her.
“Getting called out and put on the stand legitimizes my story and who I am. And if they don’t, it almost feels like they’re hiding me,” Daniels told TalkTV’s Morgan during an interview that aired Thursday. “And people automatically assume—I would—’Oh, she must not be a good witness, she’s not credible.'”
“So there’s no question, if they ask you to testify, will you testify?” Morgan urged Daniels.
“Oh absolutely,” she replied.
Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal charges for falsifying business records in Manhattan criminal court on Tuesday. Prosecutors said the crimes were committed as part of a scheme to cover up money paid to Daniels in the days leading up to the 2016 election, to prevent her from publicly disclosing an affair she said she had with Trump. .
Trump has denied the alleged extramarital affair. Daniels is not charged with any crime.
In excerpts of the interview aired Thursday, Daniels also said he doesn’t think Trump should go to jail if he is convicted. The felony charges brought against Trump carry a sentence of between one and four years, although if convicted Trump could receive probation.
“In regards to my case specifically, I don’t think their crimes against me are jail-worthy,” he told Morgan.
Although Daniels had not testified before the grand jury that inquired about the alleged hush payment scheme, in 2021 she said she would “like nothing more” to be interviewed as part of the investigation.
Daniels said at the time that his lawyer had been in contact with investigators in Manhattan and New York state, and had met with them to discuss other issues. He added that should he be asked to speak to investigators or a grand jury, he would “tell them everything” he knows.
In 2018, Daniels wrote a tell-all book outlining the alleged affair with Trump. Her then-lawyer said the book sought to prove that her story about having sex with the former president was true.
