STPS highlights to ambassadors and consuls greater advances in labor policy in Mexico

Within the framework of the 34th meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, said that there was a 180º turn in labor policy to achieve a better balance in the working marketwhich should be made known to the world.

The official said that “these are avant-garde experiences worth sharing with the world, as clear examples of public policy turned into new and effective tools for the fairer distribution of wealth.”

Thus, he explained that between the axes that feed the new labor policy there is the generation of employment with “fair wages and protection of rights; that is what we have focused on, as a result we have more than 21 million 300,000 jobs registered in Social Security, while the average salary went from 10,707 pesos to 15,391, 16% more in real terms”.

Added to the above, the minimum wage recovery policy allows recovering 90% of its purchasing power and in the Northern Border Free Zone this has been 186%. “Inflation is not generated and the wage gap between men and women is reduced by 20%, while reducing poverty in Mexico by 13%,” he said.

Mayor Luján highlighted that as part of the advances in the reform of the justice system, union freedom and democracy, “we created conciliation centers and labor courts and today 70% of conflicts between workers and employers are resolved through conciliation in less than 45 days, and the rest go to the labor courts and in less than 6 months they are attended, a reduction in dispute resolution times of 90 percent”.

The Liberty and the union democracy are linked with the Salary policy; “protection contracts have been eliminated and collective bargaining provides an additional increase of 5.7%,” she said.

“The results of the elimination of subcontracting are evident, 3 million women and men left this scheme and are recognized by their true employers, their average contribution salary increased by 27%. In parallel, the Distribution of Utilities with increases of 109% in their amounts and an average of 72% of the companies made the payment,” he said.

The federal official said that the scope of the Youth Building the Future program, which represents a job alternative and to date provides care for 2 million 357,264 people between the ages of 18 and 29, “this year it plans to benefit 500,000 more.”
