Chelsea have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Jadon Sancho but an unusual clause in his loan deal could see him return to Old Trafford.
The former England international moved to the Blues after being left out of the squad for the Red Devils’ first two Premier League games against Brighton and Fulham.
Sancho, 24, joined the Blues on loan with a mandatory purchase clause next summer.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the contract included a condition that Chelsea must finish the season between first and 14th place in the English Premier League in order to complete the purchase deal.
If the London team meets this condition, it must pay at least $26 million to Manchester United, with an additional $6.5 million, depending on the position that Chelsea occupies in the Premier League.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils wanted around $52 million for Sancho, but they suffered a blow when Juventus withdrew from the race to sign him.
Sancho returned to Manchester United after his loan to Borussia Dortmund ended at the end of last season, but he was again unable to convince Dutch coach Erik ten Hag to rely on him as a starter.
