As part of the study, experts from the University of Copenhagen studied eight males who swam during the winter, then submitted to sauna sessions after swimming for two years, while the other group of swimmers chose a specific temperature scenario, and it was discovered that swimmers in cold weather were better at adapting. As the temperature in their environment changed and they had better thermoregulation.
The researchers pointed out that swimmers in cold weather have better activation of brown fat, which is a special type of body fat that is activated when the body cools down, so swimmers burn more calories when swimming in cold weather, and people who have a high store of brown fat. They have a lower risk of heart disease, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.
