Colombian striker Luis Suárez has completed a move to Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon, signing a contract through 2030 that includes an €80 million release clause.
The 28-year-old forward joins from Almería after a prolific campaign in which he finished as the top scorer in Spain’s second division with 31 goals. At Sporting, he will compete in domestic tournaments and the UEFA Champions League.
Suárez has been brought in as the replacement for departing top scorer Viktor Gyökeres, a challenge he is ready to embrace. “I arrive eager to take on the world, and I believe that with your support, we can achieve all our goals,” Suárez stated. “I want to demonstrate that I have what it takes to be here.”
His experience in European football also includes spells with Zaragoza and Granada in Spain and Olympique Marseille in France, from where he was loaned to Almería.
Suárez recently returned to the Colombian national team during the previous round of World Cup qualifiers, playing 45 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Peru.
