On Sunday, the Sudanese authorities arrested Tayeb Mustafa, the uncle of the ousted president, Omar al-Bashir, against the background of reports from the “Empowerment Removal and Anti-Corruption Committee and the recovery of public funds”.
Mustafa is the head of the Islamic “Just Peace Forum” party and a former leader of the dissolved “National Congress” party, who was a ruler under al-Bashir (1989-2019).
His son Abdullah Al-Tayeb Mustafa said: “Police forces arrested my father on Sunday afternoon from the house in the Kafouri suburb, north of Khartoum, due to reports from the Empowerment Removal Committee, and took him to the northern police station (in the center of the capital).”
