The head of the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, confirmed the continuation of efforts to float the giant Panamanian container ship “Ever Givin” stranded at km 151, the numbering of the canal.
Rabei referred to “the start of the towing maneuvers for the delinquent ship through 9 gigantic locomotives at the forefront of which is the locomotive (Baraka 1), and the locomotive” Izzat Adel, “after the completion of the dredging works in the front of the ship by means of the dredge (Mashhour).
He explained, “The towing maneuvers require the availability of several auxiliary factors, the most prominent of which is the direction of the winds and tides, which makes it a complex technical process that has multiple assessments, procedures and attempts according to tensile sites and tests.”
The container vessel “Evergreen”, weighing 220 thousand tons and a length of 400 meters, carries hundreds of containers bound for Rotterdam from China. It is owned by the Taiwanese shipping company “Evergreen” and registered in Panama.
The traffic of ships through the Suez Canal was disrupted, as the container ship ran aground and closed the canal, hindering traffic through Suez.
