Suns’ newly acquired superstar Kevin Durant calls for the NBA to return the Sonics to Seattle… where he began his career as skinny rookie in 2007
Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has called for the NBA to bring back the Seattle SuperSonics while talking to reporters during his NBA All-Star press conference on Saturday.
Durant played for the Sonics during his rookie season, which was also the franchise’s last year in Seattle before moving and becoming the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After a reporter asked Durant what city needed an NBA team that doesn’t have one already, he simply replied by saying ‘ Seattle.’
He was then asked what he would name the team, to which he gave a second one-word answer of ‘Sonics.’

Durant played his rookie year for the Sonics before the franchise moved to Oklahoma City
During his rookie year in Seattle, Durant averaged 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assist. He has improved on all of these number dramatically.
Durant was recently traded to the Phoenix Suns following the preluding trade of his friend and fellow All-Star Kyrie Irving.
He is yet to make his debut for his new team has been recovering from a sprained MCL he suffered with Brooklyn.
The 13-time All-Star had initially requested a trade during the offseason with the Suns being one of the two teams he was said interested in joining along with the Miami Heat.
It had appeared that Durant and the Nets had amended things following a meeting in Los Angeles between team owner Joe Tsai, general manager Sean Marks, and former head coach Steve Nash.
Nash was eventually fired following a rough start to the season, and Durant situation with the team quickly changed following Irving’s trade request and departure.
As of now Durant is expected return soon, with reports stating he could make his Sun’s debut against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 24th.
Before being injured and eventually traded he was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assist.
