RENO, Nev. — Multiple people were injured in a shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort on Monday morning, which concluded when police shot the suspect.
The Reno Police Department (RPD) was dispatched to reports of an active shooter at the resort at 7:25 a.m. on July 28. Officers located the suspect outside the valet entrance within five minutes, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital; the extent of their injuries and their identity have not been released. Officials have stated there is no further threat to the public.
Authorities confirmed that multiple victims sustained injuries of varying severity, but an exact number has not been provided pending a full accounting of all individuals involved. Several police officers sustained minor, non-gunshot-related injuries during the incident.
The primary crime scene encompasses the resort’s front entrance, valet area, and the north side of the parking lot, which will remain closed during the investigation.
In accordance with standard protocol, the neighboring Sparks Police Department will conduct the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
While Reno City Councilman Devon Reese expressed condolences on social media for “multiple lives lost,” the RPD has not yet confirmed any fatalities.
