Amanda Anisimova has claimed the opening set against Iga Świątek 6-4, securing a critical break of serve in the final game.
Serving to stay in the set, Świątek came under immediate pressure. A long shot from the world number one gave Anisimova two set points at 15-40, prompting a visibly frustrated Świątek to gesture toward her player’s box. Anisimova’s dominance was built on punishing her opponent’s second serve, where she won an impressive 12 of 17 points.
While a miscued return from Anisimova saved the first set point, Świątek sent another groundstroke long on the following point to concede the 49-minute opener.
