Is this the worst tattoo in footy – or the best? Sydney Swans star shows off his interesting new ink – but the big thigh design is a MAJOR gamble
- AFL star Sam Naismith gets a tattoo of his dog, Bobby, on his upper thigh
- The new ink provoked a raucous response from followers on his Instagram
- But the 28-year-old is a free agent and could land at a different club this year
AFL star Sam Naismith has received a very mixed response to his new tattoo after unleashing his latest ink on Instagram.
The Sydney Swans, ruckman 28, who has battled a horror run with injuries throughout his career, tattooed an image of his Brussels Griffon dog, Bobby, on his upper thigh sporting his club’s colours.
Some social media followers labelled the post, captioned ‘team photo day’, as ‘amazing and brilliant.
But the tattoo could prove to be a major gamble as Naismith is yet to sign a new deal with the club and could find himself at different team for the upcoming season.

Naismith, who was raised in North West Slopes town of Narrabri, New South Wales, has only managed to sniff out 28 games for the red and whites since joining the squad back in 2014.
During the often difficult times Bobby has remained his loyal friend.
The dog features heavily on Naismith’s social media profile – even dining with the sports star during breakfast.
Naismith was forced to spend 919 days on the sideline with repeated knee injuries, before making his return to the field in last year.
But shortly just a few weeks later he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
He required surgery and was had to sit out for the remainder of the Covid-interrupted season.

The cruelty continued when his sister Kristi died after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
‘He’s missed two years of footy and comes back and plays round one and plays really well,’ development left Swans coach John Longmire told reporters after he suffered the injury last year.
‘He lost his sister through that (shutdown) break and then he comes back and does his knee. It’s a terrible run for him.
Naismith is now an unrestricted free agent for the 2021 season and remains unclear whether he will remain in Sydney.
Although it’s clear the NSW product wishes to stay on at the Swans, he could find himself in the embarrassing position of ending up at a new club with another team’s colours tattooed on his thigh.
