A 15-year-old girl found dead in the trunk of an impounded Tesla in Los Angeles may have been deceased for several weeks before her remains were discovered, police announced Monday.
The body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez was found on September 8th in a vehicle belonging to singer-songwriter D4vd, whose real name is David Burke. Authorities were called to a Hollywood tow yard after employees reported a foul odor coming from the car.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Tesla had been parked for weeks at the location from which it was towed, leading investigators to believe Hernandez died long before she was found.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of death. While it remains unclear if there is criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body, police acknowledged that charges related to the hiding of her remains are likely.
The medical examiner’s office reported that Hernandez, who weighed 71 pounds and had wavy black hair, was wearing a tube top, black leggings, a yellow metal chain bracelet, and stud earrings.
A representative for D4vd could not be reached for comment.
