Tennis star Camila Giorgi has been targeted by sexist trolls after sharing a series of racy lingerie snaps on social media – with critics accusing her of looking like a ‘porn star’ rather than an athlete.
The professional player, 29, from Italy, who reached the Wimbledon quarter finals in 2018 and is set to play in the Australian Open next month, was once ranked number 26 in the world and boasts over 308,000 followers on Instagram.
She recently posted ‘sensual’ photos of herself posing in lacy underwear on the social media platform, but was met with a barrage of criticism including one commenter who wrote: ‘Come on! You are gorgeous but do you really need to expose your body in public to boost your confidence?’
Another wrote: ‘From a tennis player to a porn actress on a set.’

‘Now every photo more and more sensual, what happened?’ another asked.
Italian journalist Stefano Cagelli penned an article for Tennis Fever about Camila’s photographs, explaining she is a good tennis player but hasn’t particularly ‘matured’ with age.
He wrote: ‘Far be it from us to do useless and anachronistic moralisms, everyone is free to do with their life (and therefore their social showcases) what they believe.
‘But we would like to use the words that Maria Sharapova said a few days ago to talk about her last months on the courts: “I kept getting noticed, but not for my tennis. Then I realized that it was right to stop”.
‘Here, if we were in Camila Giorgi’s place, we would begin to wonder if her goal is still to improve her tennis or if she has something else in mind. Nothing wrong with that, of course.’
