Tesla Inc is finalizing plans to build an electric vehicle assembly plant in an industrial zone in northeastern Mexico and could announce its installation as soon as next week, Bloomberg News reported late Friday.
The plant will be in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
Details are still being finalized, and both the state government and the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs have participated in the talks with the company (SRE), according to the report.
It’s unclear which models Tesla would produce at the Mexican factory or when production would start, Bloomberg said. Details could be announced in the coming days.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Two people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters in October that Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Muskwas considering investing in Nuevo León, a state bordering Texas.
