Tesla says goodbye to free electric recharges in Mexico

Tesla announced that as of November 14, it will begin to charge for the kilowatts in its Super Chargers in Mexico, they will no longer be free.

Through its Twitter account, the American automaker said “Goodbye to Tesla’s free Super Charge in Mexico.”

“As of next November 14, we will begin to charge for the kWh that we put in our Tesla Cars in Super Chargers and costs will also apply for inactivity,” the company announced Tuesday afternoon.

He added that “a new chapter begins in Mexico” and an opportunity to further accelerate the installation of new fast charging points.

Since its operation in Mexico, drivers with a Tesla have enjoyed traveling the country free of charge on superchargers.

Tesla informed its consumers that there will also be fees for those users who keep their unit inactive, with the aim that the owners of Tesla do not leave your vehicles connected and occupying a place, once the charging session is finished.

“At the moment the cost of kWh has not been published, which could vary depending on the area and the time in which the charge is made. As of November 14, we will be able to see the cost of each super charger, directly on the Tesla screen by clicking on the SC pin”, he explained.

Instead, the rate for inactivity will be from 10 pesos per minute, from the end of the charge and 20 pesos per minute if the super charger is at 100% capacity.

So far it is unknown how many units it has sold Tesla in Mexico because it does not report to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), like the rest of the automotive companies. However, there is an estimate that around 2,000 accumulated units circulate.
