SAN ANTONIO – A Texas man, who is a U.S. citizen, is fighting for the return of his wife and four children after he says they were unexpectedly deported.
Federico Arellano wants to be reunited with his family: his newborn twin girls, their two siblings, and their mother, who were all deported to Mexico.
It happened after his wife, who was born in Mexico, tried to go through the immigration system on their own.
But there was confusion about the status of her immigration hearing after she needed to postpone it, due to an emergency c-section to give birth to their twins.
“This case shouldn’t have gone to this extreme,” Immigration lawyer Isaias Torres said. “There were options, legal options that were available and he was not given that opportunity.”
The family and their attorneys plan to file a complaint with the office of the inspector general.
They also plan to file petitions with immigration, but that process could take several months.
