(Trends Wide) — After several days of living in miserable conditions under the Del Rio International Bridge in Texas, the last remaining migrants left their makeshift camp just before noon (local time) this Friday.
A Trends Wide crew captured images under the bridge of the last two buses as they departed for processing centers at the US Customs and Border Protection Office.
The chief of the United States Border Patrol, Raúl Ortiz, had said that a wave of migrants, many of them Haitians, had concentrated in a camp under the bridge, as a result of social media posts and word of mouth that said that the border at Del Rio was open.
The chaotic scenes on the bridge, which included law enforcement on horseback using aggressive tactics against migrants, drew the ire of local and federal officials.
Early in the morning on Friday, Bruno Lozano, the mayor of Del Rio, had told Trends Wide that there were only 144 migrants left waiting to be processed by US immigration authorities.
