(Trends Wide) — The number of travelers on Thanksgiving set a new record for air travel in the United States in the era of the pandemic.
The Transportation Security Administration says it checked 2,311,978 people at airports across the country on Wednesday, making it the busiest day at security checkpoints since March 2020.
The figure is 88% of the traffic (2,624,250) of the equivalent Wednesday of 2019, before the pandemic. And it’s more than double the number of travelers (1,070,967) that the TSA reviewed on this day last year.
Wednesday is the seventh day in a row that the TSA has logged more than 2 million passengers.
