The 3 most common dental problems in the Mexican population

Like other areas of the body, the mouth also requires preventive care, so proper care can save us from various diseases and infections.

In interview for The EconomistDr. Alberto Meza, founder of Meza Dental Care, explained that among the main oral problems that occur in the Mexican population are: cavities, periodontal problems and poor dental alignment.

In the case of dental caries and periodontitis, the doctor explained that it is mainly related to a poor diet or poor oral hygiene.

“The high incidence of sugars encourages diseases such as diabetes, obesity, but also dental caries,” he explains.

“Since we have bacteria in the oral cavity, if these are not controlled (bad hygiene or excess sugars and carbohydrates) they excrete an acid that has the ability to penetrate the minerals in the enamel (first dental layer) and create pores, in this point the patient still does not feel pain, the problem increases when the pore reaches the dentin, which is already the second layer and this does have a connection with the nerves of the rest of the body and that is where the patient begins to feel the first discomfort.

In the case of dental malalignment, it is not only an aesthetic issue, it also makes correct dental hygiene difficult, which can be the trigger for many other diseases.

Finally, the specialist said that to protect oral health it is necessary to practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist preventively.
