A statement by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the African Union confirmed, during the 38th session of its Executive Council, the ratification of Algeria’s candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2024/2025.
The Algerian newspaper “El Khabar” said that Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum, during his speech at this session that ended on Thursday, insisted “the necessity of adhering to the founding principles of the African Union, especially with regard to respecting the sovereignty of member states within the framework of the implementation of the infrastructure development program in Africa.” .
The newspaper added that “during the discussion of the proposed projects within the framework of the second phase of the African Program for Infrastructure Development, the Council approved the list of proposed projects, except for four projects that did not meet the required conditions, including two that did not respect the sovereignty of the SADR.”
It should be noted that the northwestern African region is witnessing a fierce competition with geopolitical backgrounds in establishing huge infrastructure projects to connect the Mediterranean Sea to the West African depth through Algeria, according to some projects and across Morocco, according to others.
