The Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) joined the government’s industrial policy strategy to develop the transition towards electromobility, although it warned about the need for fiscal stimulus and non-fiscal to promote the use and acquisition of electric and hybrid vehicles.
Once the automotive industry was considered as a strategic sector within industrial policy As potential for economic growth, the private organization headed by José Zozaya highlighted the commitment of companies to continue integrating technologies and solutions in favor of the automotive sector and to build a transition to electromobility both nationally and globally.
Through a statement, the AMIA expressed that it has the commitment recently announced by the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to combat climate change, which implies that 50% of all vehicles produced in the country in 2030 will be zero emissions.
To achieve these objectives, it is necessary to develop a public policy coordinated across the Public Administration, which promotes the accelerated transition towards electromobility in the country”, stated the AMIA.
However, he stressed that the policy must “contemplate the granting of incentives to companies to produce vehicles such as electric hybrids, plug-in electric hybrids, electric and hydrogen cell vehicles; as well as fiscal and non-fiscal incentives and stimuli to promote their use and acquisition, the development of recharging infrastructure and the creation of an adequate legal and regulatory framework,” he demanded.
The body that represents the manufacturers, importers and marketers of light vehicles established in Mexico “will work hand in hand with the actors determined by the government as responsible for implementing the transition strategy towards electromobility.”
After the announcement of the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier of the initiative “Towards an industrial policy”, the AMIA reaffirms its willingness to work together to strengthen industrial sectors as relevant to the country’s economy as the automotive industry.
In this context, he added, we ratify the need for a coordinated strategy for comprehensive electrification and sustainable mobility.
According to information from the federal agency, the automotive industry had a 73% increase in job creation in the last decade, while due to its level of manufacturing it ranks as the seventh world producer of light cars and the first exporter of trucks in the world.
The AMIA mentioned that its dynamism responds to the importance of the Mexican government promoting scientific and technological development with the increase in the production of zero emission vehicles and their value chain.
