The League of Arab States praised the voting process conducted by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva from 1 to 5 February, which led to the selection of a new Libyan interim government.
An official source at the University’s General Secretariat said that he “welcomes the forum’s success in assuming its responsibilities in this positive way,” expressing its aspiration “for the installation of the Presidential Council headed by Mr. Mohamed Al-Manfi and the formation of the new government headed by Mr. Abdul Hamid Dabaiba at the earliest opportunity, until it begins assuming its duties It prepares to hold the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for the end of this year.
The source renewed the Arab League’s support for all national efforts exerted to reach a final and integrated solution to the Libyan situation, and called for unifying international and regional positions behind the settlement efforts sponsored by the UN mission in Libya.
Earlier on Friday, the Libyan Political Forum voted in favor of choosing a new interim government that will be led by Muhammad Al-Manfi as Chairman of the Presidential Council, and Abdel-Hamid Dabaiba as Prime Minister.
The vote comes as part of a UN-led peacemaking effort aimed at holding presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24.
