The arguments of the labor sector to request a 25% increase in minimum wages by 2023

In a document delivered to the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, the 10 groups that make up the labor sector within the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami), stated that “Mexico continues to earn one of the lowest minimum wages in the continent. An example of this is that, of the Latin American countries, our country is only one place above Venezuela and very far from what is received in Chile”.

In the same way, the document highlights that “currently there are no legal, ethical, economic or any other reasons that prevent progress in the recovery of the purchasing power of the minimum wage to bring it to full compliance with the constitutional mandate, especially because they have been exceeded ties that for many years they asked for”.

In this sense, by the year 2023, when the new minimum wages “Uncertain economic conditions are expected, but better than those suffered in the last two years, which, together, may make it possible for the salary increase to advance to the general and professional minimums.”

The labor sector stressed the need not to leave behind the salary increase to the minimum professional, it should not be, they maintained “give discriminatory treatment”, especially because it is unfair that the general minimum wage has increased by up to 67.3% more than to the Professional minimum wages.
